Being aware of our surroundings

October 29th, 2008

There was absolutely no wind as I was driving down the Don Valley Parkway and admiring the spectacular autumn colours on the trees.

The sun was shining and it was probably the most perfect Fall afternoon I had experienced since coming to Canada 20 years ago.

It made me think about something that is so important in sport and particularly a fast moving game like squash and doubles in particular.

When we are admiring, worrying or just thinking we are not truly able to see. Once we start thinking we are either in the past or the future but definitely not in the present.

To play good sport we have to be aware of our surroundings all the time and the minor changes that are happening.

What I realised as I was driving was that although I had stayed on the road, I had absolutely no recollection of what the road looked like.

When playing we must always recognise where our attention is and try to keep it on the ball and in the court.

Hello world!
